Woman on Top
Telemundo Chicago news anchor Tsi-Tsi-Ki Felix shares her view from the top
Q: Two factors to your success?
A: Perseverance and taking risks
Q: Most admire.
A: My mom. She brought us to this country alone and had the courage to face many obstacles. She inspires me because if she could do it, so can I.
Q: What you love about your job?
A: Everything! But more specifically having the opportunity to make a difference in the life of people who may be facing the same challenges I did when I first arrived.
Q: Have you reached your goals?
A: No! I still have much to accomplish in my professional life, I’d say I’m still at the start. In my personal life I’m at the midpoint with some goals still remaining.

Tsi-tsi-ki a pseudo-journalist still needs to get back to school and finish at least high school. Her being were she is has its merit, although it is tainted by the fact that Telemundo philosophy as a network is 25 years old; back to the old idea of hiring an anchor based on looks and personality. That is an old hiring strategy for anchors these days. News professionals in the media have to be educated (at least have a bachelor degree). The roll media plays is crucial for the healthy growth and image of the local Hispanic community. Hispanic media has to have a duty with their community to maintain it well informed and provide quality local coverage (not only cover Telenovelas or the farandula, clearly the obvious comfort zone for Tsi tsi ki). Hiring unprepared “pseudo-journalists” has a negative impact on the Hispanic community overall. Telemundo's show at 10:30 am was fanfare to be a new and fresh program for the ladies staying at home and an opportunity for their star anchor, Tsi tsi ki, to participate, not only as a conductor, but in the production of the new program. It promised interviews with leaders, subjects of importance to woman raging from economy, business, immigration, health and leadership). Far from being all that, the program is a “news refrito” (meaning a mixture of existing news), news already covered at the early national Hispanic news shows; nothing new, nothing exciting; far beyond their dreams. The poor production is an example that Tsi tsi ki is not prepared to go beyond the "TELEPROMPTER" If Telemundo wants to really compete with Univision for the monies and along the way provide the local Hispanic community with quality journalism, then Telemundo would have to go out and hire JOURNALISTS who can bring fresh and new ideas to the news programs, real journalist that are savvy as conductors and provide content and knowledge to the community, not pseudo-journalist, not the Tsi tsi ki's of the world, shouldn’t we be beyond that already, we are in America not back in some town in the middle of Michoacán!
How a door opens is one thing - what you do with it once inside is another. We are all a work in progress and Tsi-tsi-ki will do just fine as she understands hard work and notes the success of others who have gone before her. Good luck!!
Good interview..
